Do you remember “that” YouTube video by the South Korean music artist named Psy? Gangnam Style is without a doubt one of the most viral music videos ever in Internet history!

Incase you missed it, check it out below:-

Love it or loathe it, both the song and the video are memorable to people all over the world.

Psy’s Gangnam Style is an example of how something can go viral on the World Wide Web. You might not believe it, but it’s possible to make content on any blog go viral!

Content usually goes viral thanks to some clever marketing tactics. I’m going to share with you some methods you can use to make your blog post stand out from the crowd.

Why should you create viral content?

The answer is simple: you want people to share your work and promote it for you! When you spend a long time crafting a post on your blog, you want lots of people to read what you’ve got to say. The last thing you want is to for nobody to read it!

Just because you are writing in a business blog doesn’t mean your content needs to be boring. The whole point of blogging is to reach out to people in your niche. So, if you run a business selling B2B services, you want business owners to read your content.

No matter what niche you blog in there is always groups associated around that niche – eg: if you are an arts and crafts blogger, you can promote your blog in groups about arts and crafts, interact with the people in the group and share your knowledge.

What are the secrets to creating viral content?

There aren’t any “secrets” per se. It all comes down to common sense, and if you think about the following points you’ll see what I mean!

First of all, your content needs to be worthy enough to share with others. Media outlets might report on Apple’s latest profit news, but will they care about your blog? Perhaps not. But, that doesn’t mean you can’t pen compelling content that others will want to share!

Next, you need to think about how your content will benefit the readers of the social networks that share it. Let’s say that you run a business selling automotive parts. Writing about the anatomy of your turbochargers might not interest many people.

But, showing examples of your turbos in high-performance cars will pique their interest! You need to put yourself in the mindset of your readers, and be in active in groups where your target market hang out – so no use hanging in mothers group if your target market is rev heads.

What type of content gets shared the most?

I can only give you a general example because each business blog has a particular audience.

The top five content most shared by people on social media is:

  1. Infographics;
  2. List posts (i.e. “5 Ways To Make $1 Million Before You’re 30”);
  3. What and Why posts (i.e. “What Your Car Says About You”);
  4. How To posts (i.e. “How To SEO Your Website In Three Easy Steps”); and
  5. Video posts.

As you can imagine, blog post titles are a big deal when it comes to crafting viral content. So, before you write a “boring” title, try and jazz it up!

Make it easy to share your content

Last, but not least, you need to make it easy for readers to share your posts! First of all, add some social sharing buttons on your blog. I recommend Jetpack (if you already have it activated), but there are loads of alternatives.

Next, you need to kick start your social marketing by being the first to share the content online! That means posting links to your blog from social networking sites. Check out CoSchedule for streamlining your social media posting.

Now you know what to do, it’s time to get started!
