Don’t Take on More Than You Can Handle

When it comes to online marketing with a business, any business, sometimes we can feel overwhelmed. In fact, for many of us it can seem like we feel overwhelmed more often than not. Why do we feel this way? Because we feel like we need to be everywhere all of the time. But guess what? We really don’t.

Keep your sanity. You do not need to be on every single platform that’s out there. Between Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Google+, and other social media platforms as well as areas to share your information, your entire day can be consumed by this. No thank you! Who wants to waste their entire day sharing their things when they could be creating fresh evergreen content for their current readers and followers instead?

You don’t need to be everywhere. Stop trying. What you need to do is pick a few things that work really well for you, and stick to those. For example, if you get a lot of interaction from Instagram, but can’t seem to get any retweets on Twitter at all, focus on Instagram. Its where your following is most active, so that’s where you need to be.

Down the line when your business grows, you may want to hire a social media manager, or a virtual assistant who will stay on top of these things for you daily or weekly. And that’s fine, but right now you should focus on growing your following where your followers already are.

Focus on things that work. Not things that waste your time. It’s the key to keeping yourself sane and realizing that you don’t need to be everywhere, but rather where your audience is.

This doesn’t mean that you should have these social media profiles though! It’s important that when you start your business, or start heavy marketing, that you reserve your profiles on each platform. Even if you don’t plan on using it often, make sure to get your profile name secured. Otherwise when it comes time to use that platform, someone else might have your name and then you’ll have to come up with something else, which can turn into quite the hassle.

No matter what kind of business you are running, or what marketing you are doing, it’s important to not overwhelm yourself with things to do that might be a waste of time. Stick to where your audience is and market that way. Save yourself the energy and time to focus on other things each day!
